Okotoks skaters shine at Alberta Cup in Red Deer

Four Okotoks athletes, five U15 AAA Oilers compete at Hockey Alberta showcase

Okotoks made its mark at the 2025 Alberta Cup.

Four players from the community and five skaters on the Okotoks U15 AAA Oilers competed at the annual Hockey Alberta showcase of the U15 AAA athletes in the province held over the weekend in Red Deer.

Alberta Red struck gold on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Alberta Gold in the tournament final. The team featured Okotoks defenceman Hudson Pineda as well as AAA Oilers forwards Nolan Ilsley and Max Mullen, both from Chestermere.

Mullen had a goal in the gold medal game and finished the event with two tallies and Ilsley added two assists with Pineda adding a goal earlier in the competition.

Alberta Green, which featured Okotokians MacLane Tetarenko at forward, Jack Parsons on defence and Carter Crawford in goal along with AAA Oilers head coach Daron Dumanski, finished fifth in Red Deer.

Tetarenko, a multi-sport star with the Okotoks Dawgs Academy, tied for third in tournament scoring with five points (three goals and two assists). Crawford made 15 saves on 16 shots in the fifth place final, a 5-2 win over Alberta Grey.

The Hockey Alberta showcase series continue over the next two weekends in Red Deer with the Alberta Challenge next on deck from May 1-4.

The event, featuring the top 2011 and 2010 female athletes in Alberta, has four members of Rocky Mountain U15 AA Raiders competing, including goalies Kahli Giesbrecht, from Diamond Valley, and Morgan Sloane, from Okotoks, along with Okotoks blueliners Sarah Grummett and Ayla Poliakiwski.

Samuel Davies, from the Okotoks U13 AA Oilers, was selected to the Prospects Cup, featuring the top 2012 male athletes in the province, to be held from May 7-11 in Red Deer.
