Diamond Valley stages grass fire training exercise

Diamond Valley Fire Rescue held a training exercise to simulate a response to a large grass fire

There were lots of fire trucks, but no smoke or fire during a recent training exercise at the Black Diamond Elk Ranch.

Diamond Valley Fire Rescue carried out the full-scale exercise on the elk ranch, located just south of the town, to wrap up multi-week wildfire training on April 15.

Fire Chief TJ Moore said the scenario involved crews responding to a large grass fire.

Firefighters put numerous firefighting vehicles through their paces during the event.

“The ranch served as a great spot to simulate a grass fire that was threatening structures and animals,” the department said on social media.

Crews advanced hose lines, conducted pump and roll operations, and established a water supply during the exercise.

“This was a great opportunity to put our recent training nights to the test,” DVFR said.

DVFR said firefighters train weekly to be able to respond when needed, but they expect an early start to wildfire season and ask residents to be mindful.

“With severe drought conditions forecasted for this summer, and the extreme risk of wildfire, residents need to do their part by being responsible and cautious as the warm season approaches,” the fire department said.
