An unprecedented season of junior hockey has come to a close for the Oilers.

The Brooks Bandits downed the Okotoks Oilers 5-1 Tuesday night to win the decisive Game 7 of the BCHL Alberta Division semifinal on home ice.

Caelan Fitzpatrick scored a goal in each period with a hat trick to lead the top-seed Bandits with Nick Peluso and Nathan Free also lighting the lamp for Brooks.

Rylan Brown scored late in the second period, the Oilers blueliner’s first of the postseason.

Okotoks rookie netminder Christian Green made 41 saves in the loss.

Jagger Tapper and Dean Spak finished with a team best five playoff goals for Okotoks.

Between the regular season in the AJHL and BCHL and playoffs, the Oilers played 79 games over the 2023-24 campaign.

The Tuesday night contest was the third Game 7 in Oilers franchise history and first since a memorable 2013 series versus Brooks.

Prior to the postseason, Brooks, who only lost six games in regulation all season, had gone 14 games without a loss to Okotoks.

The Bandits move onto the BCHL Alberta Division final versus the second-seed Sherwood Park Crusaders.
