Cause of Okotoks blaze still under investigation

A fire Wednesday evening damaged three homes on Cimarron Grove Way.

Okotoks Fire & Rescue is looking into a blaze that damaged three homes on Cimarron Grove Way on April 17.

According to Deputy Chief Colin Sager, the department got called about a structure fire at approximately 6:15 p.m.

"We had two crews responding, one from the north station, one from the south station," said Sager.

"Once they got on scene, they confirmed they had a fully-engulfed structure in the back, which looked to be a shed, and it was threatening a few houses in the area."

The fire was put out fairly quickly, but not before damaging three homes, including completely burning down two sheds.

"I just looked out my window, I saw a bunch of smoke and then I noticed that the shed and the fence were on fire," said resident Andrea Sorley. "And then I went and grabbed my cats and I ran out front and got them safe."

Sorley was not completely certain which shed was the first to ignite, but was fairly confident it was her neighbour's, whose house sustained the most damage and is situated between the other two impacted homes.

Sager confirmed that the fire had started at that house, and that the department is looking into the cause.

"We're obviously still investigating it, and the cause is unknown currently, but we're still working on that part of it," he said.

Sager did not share any theories or suggestions, but said the team is reviewing video footage and materials from the site.
